The owner of a Canonsburg resale shop waived a charge of theft to Washington County Court Tuesday after the burglary charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.

John Irwin Moeller, 47, of 103 Anderson Drive, North Strabane Township, had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge James Ellis on the charges filed by Peters Township police.

Moeller, who operates John’s Trading Post, 20 N. Central Ave., was accused in the theft of artifacts that had been in a private museum. The items were found in September when state police served a search warrant in another case. Peters police were investigating the theft of the items, including Civil War era memorabilia.

Moeller previously waived firearms charges filed by state police.

He remains free on a $50,000 percentage bond.
