Canonsburg police are investigating how a 19-year-old man got shot in the leg while walking in the borough’s East End Tuesday night.
Sean Boehm of Canonsburg was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his right leg.
Borough police were called at 11:12 p.m. by residents who reported hearing shots fired in the area. Police found nothing when they arrived and went door to door, verifying with residents that shots had been fired.
Sgt. Don Cross said police then got a call about a gunshot victim at Washington Hospital who was being transferred to a Pittsburgh hospital. Boehm was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
Cross said Boehm and a friend, James Harper, were walking on a trail at the end of Euclid Avenue near the former Cooper Industries and the Cecil Township line.
An initial report indicated that a man came up to them and demanded money, but police are still trying to substantiate that, Cross said.
Blood was found on the trail in the area where Boehm was shot.
Police are still conducting interviews and continuing their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Cross at 724-745-8020, ext. 39.
