New Year’s Eve skate event draws crowd in Greensboro
GREENSBORO – More than 200 individuals rolled in the New Year at the fifth annual “All Night Skate” New Year’s Eve at Mon View Roller Rink and Community Center in Greensboro.
Activities for the event, which began at 10 p.m. Dec. 31 and ended at 6 a.m. Jan. 1, included continuous skating, games, prizes, hot dogs and sauerkraut at midnight. Waynesburg Rent-A-Center donated a large-screen TV for the “Just Dance 4” competition, which featured winners based on skill level.
Sponsored by the Greene County commissioners, First Federal Savings and Loan of Greene County and Waynesburg Rent-A-Center, the skate was intended for children and teens 17 and younger. Admission was $10 per person.
Winter skating hours at Mon View are 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The roller rink will be closed Jan 4-5 and Jan. 11-12 for routine maintenance and will reopen with a “Skate & Dance” night Jan. 18. Regular admission is $5 for all skaters, whether renting skates or bringing their own, and $5 for nonskaters. Times and prices may change for special events.
The Department of Recreation will host nine “Skate & Dance” events Fridays in 2013. The dates are Jan. 18; Feb. 1 and 15; March 1, 15 and 29; April 12 and 26; and May 3. The skate will run from 7 to 9 p.m., and the dance will be held from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission is $8.
Mon View is available to rent for private parties at a rate of $120 for two hours. The price covers admission and skate rental for 20 people. A fee of $3 per additional person will be charged. Skate lessons also are available by appointment only.
