Hanover Township supervisors made their first appointment to a seasonal position to help the township prepare for the First Niagara Pavilion concert season.

At the supervisors’ Jan. 17 meeting, James Lauria was named to head the pavilion police department. Lauria is currently the chief of police for Oakdale Borough in Allegheny County and is the director of public safety at Pittsburgh Technical Institute. He will retain both positions while acting as the head of the pavilion force.

The pavilion police are in charge of providing security at the concert venue, which lies within township boundaries. Pavilion police are a separate entitiy from Hanover police, operate from command trailers on the property, are funded primarily by the First Niagara pavilion but are governed by the township supervisors. They are in charge of crowd control, traffic and patrol the grounds of the concert venue.

The township will add other positions to the pavilion crew, including an administrative assistant, special detail manager and part-time police officers.

In addition to the pavilion appointment, Officer Julius Zoller was returned to the Hanover police active roster after a short break from the force.
