A Charleroi man faces a charge of carrying a firearm without a license after a handgun was found in his repossessed vehicle.

Jared Lawson, 26, of 203 Shady Lane, had his 2005 Dodge Magnum repossessed on Jan. 14. The repossession company representative found a .22-caliber handgun in the center console of the car.

The agent transported the car and gun to the Charleroi Regional police station where Officer Michael Kreslich took possession of the gun. Kreslich said the gun had not been reported stolen but there was no record of its ownership. The officer said it is common for repossession agents to inventory the vehicle at the time they take the vehicle.

Police said Lawson did not have a license to carry the weapon. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Larry Hopkins.
