A West Bethlehem Township man was arrested early Monday by state police after allegedly firing his shotgun outside his sister’s home.

Stephen Paul Boothe, 36, of 94 Garrett Road, Scenery Hill, was arrested on a charge of recklessly endangering another person after reportedly firing shots from his 12-gauge shotgun outside the home of Denise Marie Lacy.

Police were called about 2:20 a.m. for a report of a man shooting a gun near Lacy’s home at 86 Garrett. Police also were told that Boothe had been in an argument with his mother.

Sandra Sue Boothe, the suspect’s mother, told police that she and her son had been arguing earlier and that he had been drinking heavily. She also reported hearing shots, but did not know the origin.

Lacy, Stephen Booth’s sister, told police that about 1 a.m., her brother was driving around her house in his pickup truck, revving the engine. She then heard two gunshots near where her vehicles were parked about 10 to 15 yards from her home. Police later found two spent shotgun shells next to her vehicle.

Boothe told police that he drove to Lacy’s residence because he has a problem with her boyfriend and does not like him being on the property.

He denied shooting near her home and told police he had been shooting groundhogs earlier in the evening.

Although Boothe told police the shotgun was still in his truck, troopers were unable to locate the weapon.

Boothe was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in the Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for July 10 before District Judge Curtis Thompson.
