The former treasurer of a school PTA in Canonsburg who’s charged with stealing $16,000 from the organization Tuesday waived his right to a preliminary hearing, which moves the case to Washington County Court.

The hearing scheduled Thursday for Brian L. Simon, 35, of North Strabane Township, has been canceled, according to the office of District Judge David Mark.

Simon is charged by borough police with theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received and theft. He is accused of stealing the money between Oct. 27 and April 18 from South Central Elementary School PTA, and then repaying most of the money to the group.
