Columbia Gas announced Wednesday it will launch two pipeline improvement projects in Washington County totaling $3.2 million. The company will replace more than 24,800 feet of existing steel pipe with state-of-the-art plastic pipe in South Franlin and Canton townships. Both projects will involve construction taking place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. with possible lane closures during working hours.

The South Franklin portion of the project will benefit approximately 35 customers and impact Park Avenue, Security Drive, Dividend Drive and Annuity Drive. It’s expected to be completed by the end of October. The Canton Township portion of the project will benefit approximately 150 customers and impact Weirich Avenue, Caldwell Avenue, Valleyview Drive, Pointview Drive and Lacock Street. It is expected to be completed by the end of December.

The construction work will require a temporary interruption of natural gas service for individual customers while their service is connected to the new gas main. Columbia will make personal contact with customers prior to temporarily interrupting service and to schedule service restoration.
