Baby Rain Day applications now available

WAYNESBURG – Parents of infants and children have looked forward to this unusual event each year since the first Baby Rain Day Royalty was crowned in 1986. Each year, a new Baby Rain Day King, Queen, Prince and Princess will be crowned and honored on the Rain Day stage.

Each child that enters will receive a certificate of participation and a thank-you gift provided by the special events commission and area sponsors.

The winners will receive a $100 cash prize, crown or tiara, title banner, special gifts and the honor of representing Rain Day throughout the coming year.

Winners in each category are determined by the number of votes received ($1 equals one vote).

The Rain Day Committee also will select the “Best Decorated Canister” and that child will receive a $100 cash prize.

Eacy year, a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Humane Society of Greene County and to help organize next year’s Rain Day Festival.

To enter your child, submit a completed application, which are available at the Waynesburg Borough office or at the Chamber of Commerce; a decorated Pringles can with at least one photo of the child, a $5 entry fee and two other photos of the entrant, which will be sent to local newspapers.

All items must be dropped off at the Waynesburg Borough office at 90 East High Street by July 22.

The contestant cans will be displayed from July 22 through July 26 in the lobby of First Federal Savings & Loan’s downtown office.

The contestant cans also will be displayed at the special events commission booth near the borough police station until 3 p.m. July 29.

To qualify, the contestant must be a Greene County resident under 4 years of age on July 29.

Age categories as of July 29 are as follows:

• Prince/princess, birth to 19 months.

• King/queen, must be at least 19 months and one day but have not yet reached their 4th birthday.

Rules for entry:

• Only clean (inside and lid) Pringles can will be displayed.

• No objects are to protrude from any part of the can.

• Please leave the lid clear and uncut. Do not decorate lid.

• Each can must display at least one picture of your child.

• Absolutely no soliciting or advertising for contribution permitted.

• The special events commission is not responsible for any damage to the cans.
