A Vestaburg woman was arrested Wednesday by California police after she was found earlier this month passed out in her vehicle with her 3-month-old daughter inside.
Nikki Lynn Clark, 20, of 279 Community St., Vestaburg, was found by police on the afternoon of July 3 after officers got a call from the 911 dispatch center of a woman passed out in a vehicle in the 10 block of Fourth Street.
Emergency medical personnel had to knock several times on the door to wake her up. Clark was then seen trying to hide an object she had in her hands.
When she was removed from the vehicle, she told EMS workers that she had taken a dose of heroin.
Police found the 3-month-old in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle. Police said the vehicle was hot due to the warm day and that there was no air conditioning running in the vehicle.
Police found a hypodermic needle and a wristlet purse containing six stamp bags of suspected heroin along with 11 empty stamp bags. Police also found a spoon with burn marks on the bottom with residue of suspected heroin.
Court documents did not indicate who has custody of the infant.
Clark was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension. She was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for July 29 before Kanalis.
