Two Washington men, already facing burglary and other charges for allegedly breaking into a North Franklin Township restaurant, were arraigned on more burglary-related charges filed by state police.

Jason Alexander Carpenter, 20, of 25 Midland Road, Canton Township, and Joseph Boone, 20, of 1160 Fayette St., also are accused of breaking into Shorty’s Lunch and trying to enter Chuck’s Archery, both at 2301 Jefferson Ave., Canton, on June 9, about the same time they allegedly burglarized Angelo’s restaurant, 2109 North Franklin Drive.

The two allegedly broke the outer drive-through window at Shorty’s, as well as a window at Chuck’s Archery. The pair left but later returned and broke the inner drive-through window, police said.

When state police arrived, they said they found Boone’s pickup truck parked in the lot behind the business. The truck had a flat tire.

Boone allegedly told Trooper Sarah Teagarden, who filed the charges, that he and Carpenter when to Chuck’s and then to Shorty’s but left when a car pulled into the lot. They hid in woods behind the building.

The two then went back to the businesses. Boone told Teagarden that Carpenter broke out the other window at Shorty’s and entered the building. Carpenter then let Boone into the building through a back door. The two again ran from the building after seeing the lights of an approaching police car.

Boone told Teagarden that they were not in Shorty’s long enough to steal anything. He said the two then went to Carpenter’s house. Boone later went back and retrieved his truck.

Boone was arraigned Thursday before District David Mark from Washington County jail, where he is incarcerated on $50,000 bond for the Angelo’s burglary. Mark set an additional $25,000 bond. Carpenter was arraigned Saturday on two counts each of burglary and theft. He was placed in jail on $10,000. He had been free on unsecured bond for the Angelo’s burglary.

A preliminary hearing on the latest charges is set for Aug. 8 before Mark.
