Amwell Twp. couple accused of assaulting police
An Amwell Township couple were arrested early Tuesday at the Washington Hospital emergency room after they allegedly assaulted state troopers who were responding for a report of an assault.
Kishella Darla Schneider, 26, and Nathan D. Schneider, 31, both of 5 Christy Lane, are each accused of assault.
Police were called about 4 a.m. to the hospital by an emergency room doctor for a report that Kishella Schneider had possibly been assaulted by her husband. She was being treated for a head injury and may have blacked out. She later told police she suffered a seizure.
Police started questioning her husband. Police said Nathan Schneider, who was intoxicated, became defensive. Troopers also noticed he had a handgun sticking out of the pocket of a jacket he was wearing.
Police took the revolver. His wife also mentioned he had another weapon in his vehicle. Police went out to the vehicle to get the other gun and remove bullets from both weapons.
As Trooper Jeff Tihey was placing the bullets in the console of the vehicle, Nathan Schneider reportedly threw a black plastic cup at the trooper’s head.
Kishella Schneider, who was released from the hospital, approached the troopers as they were dealing with her husband. She was told to stop but continued. Trooper Chad Scrip said he put up his arm in an attempt to stop her.
Police said she then lunged at Scrip as she tried to grab a bag of her husband’s belongings from his hand. Scrip and Trooper Kevin DeJulius grabbed her and took her to the ground. She then allegedly bit Scrip in the knee.
Troopers placed her in the cruiser. At the barracks, she reportedly refused to get out of the car. As police took her into the barracks, she kicked the front glass door, breaking it.
Police placed her on a chair and she then allegedly bit and kicked Trooper Scott Dowlin.
Nathan Schneider was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and driving under suspension. Kishella Schneider is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of resisting arrest, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Both were arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward and placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 13 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
