LEHIGHTON (AP) – A body found in a northeastern Pennsylvania lake has been identified as that of a boater who disappeared more than a week ago.

Carbon County coroner Bruce Nalesnik said the body found Tuesday afternoon is that of 57-year-old Dean Christman of Lehighton.

Nalesnik said the victim’s body was located using sonar in approximately 65 feet of water in Beltzville State Park.

The body was retrieved and pronounced dead at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. Nalesnik said an autopsy is planned at Lehigh Valley Hospital on Wednesday.

Crews started combing the lake after fishermen on shore saw a boat going in circles July 22 and heard cries for help in the distance.

The lake was closed for days while searchers tried to find the victim.
