A Washington man required hospital treatment Sunday after he allegedly was pistol-whipped by armed men who invaded his home on Addison Street.
Vidal Alvarez Herrera, 48, of 660 Addison St., sustained several head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Washington Hospital. Stephanie Henderson, 53, and Robert “Bubba” Fuller also live in the building and were present when the armed men allegedly entered the building and assaulted Herrera.
Henderson told police she was in her bedroom when she heard someone enter Herrera’s room and ask for money, but she did not see who it was. Henderson said someone opened her door five minutes later and pressed a gun to her head. She then heard a loud struggle in the hallway and Herrera yelled, “Call the police,” according to the police report.
Henderson said the men fled and left behind a gun, which police identified as a Colt .32-caliber semiautomatic. She told police one man was armed with a gun, and another had a screwdriver.
Fuller told police in a written statement he was in his bedroom with his girlfriend when a man entered the room, pointed a gun at him and forced him to go to Herrera’s room to ask for money.
When police spoke with Herrera at the hospital, he backed Henderson’s and Fuller’s accounts. He told police “Bubba” came to his room and asked for $100, but he refused. Herrera said people started banging on his bedroom door 20 minutes after Fuller left, and they forcibly entered because the door was wedged shut.
He told police he was hit with the gun more times than he could count and that he yelled for others to call the police. He said both men were armed with guns.
Henderson and Fuller told police the men had red towels concealing their faces.
Officer Matthew Karlowsky later saw two men in the 600 block of Catfish Alley. When he approached them, they fled toward West Chestnut Street, but he lost sight of them around the 600 block of Fayette Street.
