Fort Cherry commencement set
Fort Cherry High School will graduate 82 seniors at its commencement at 7 p.m. Friday at James Garry Stadium/Fort Cherry High School Gymnasium.
Giving the speeches will be valedictorian Rebekah Lynn Welesko and salutatorian Riley Marcel Sember.
Welesko is a daughter of Kenneth and Deborah Welesko of McDonald. She will attend Carnegie Mellon University.
She was a National Merit Scholarship finalist, won the Sprowls College and Post Graduate Scholarship, won the Zonta Club Amelia Earhart Award for exemplary community service, was a Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Ambassador and won the Straight A Math Award.
Welesko also was National Honor Society president, had the lead role in the school musical for three years and was a member of Encore, Foreign Language Club, Drama Club, Community Service Club and Strive gifted program.
She also participated in the Teen Bible Quiz, is a member of a church worship team and participated in the Joplin, Mo., tornado relief mission trip.
Sember is a son of Mark and Denise Sember of McDonald. He will study pharmacy at Ohio Northern University.
He received a Presidential Scholarship to attend Ohio Northern, was vice president of National Honor Society and won the Straight A Math Award and the Presidential Award for four years.
He was a member of the Foreign Language Club, Drama Club and was captain of the cross-country and track team, where he was a WPIAL finalist. He also is a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Washington and is employed by M.A.’s Ice Cream Shop in McDonald.
