July 4th program announced

WAYNESBURG – Patriotism will be on full display at the Greene County Fairgrounds for the Waynesburg Lions Club’s Fourth of July celebration.

The day will begin with the traditional pancake and sausage breakfast from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the 4-H Building.

From 10 a.m. to noon will be registration for the sixth annual Lions Car Show beginning at noon and running until 3 p.m., featuring antique, classic and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles. There will be food, music and drawings during the show with trophies being awarded at 3 p.m.. Scoring will be done by “participant” judging.

Children’s activities will get under way at 11 a.m. with free horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting and a “Bouncy House.” All activities are free and will continue until 1 p.m. The Bouncy House will be open all day.

Opening ceremonies for the evening session will be at 5 p.m. with a short address and a flag ceremony, followed by the Little Miss Firecracker Pageant on the grandstand state at 6 p.m.

The noncompetitive event is open for girls ages 5 to 8 who will be wearing patriotic sportswear with the winner receiving a trophy, sash and savings bond. All participants will receive medals for entering.

The Kim Alexander Band will perform at 7 p. m. on the main stage in front of the grandstand. The band hails from Pittsburgh and is known as a “wedding party” band, having made appearances at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, the Washington Doubletree Hotel lounge and other clubs and venues throughout the tri-state area.

The band plays a wide variety of music, from pop, popular rock, country and oldies.

The evening will conclude with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

The Lions Club food booth will be open under the grandstand from 11 a.m. until closing. All activities and shows are open to the public at no charge, with the exception of food and drink.

All proceeds are used to benefit Waynesburg Lions Club charities in the area.
