COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man serving 30 years in prison in a child pornography case has lost his bid for a lighter sentence.

A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati on Friday ruled that the sentence for 35-year-old Patrick Mahoney of Columbus was appropriate.

Mahoney had argued that the prison term was unreasonably long. He said the judge in the case gave too much weight to his admission that he sexually abused a girl for more than three years beginning when she was 6 or 7.

Even though Mahoney admitted to that crime, he was charged only with distributing child porn and enticing a minor related to a separate undercover investigation.

Federal Judge Stephen Murphy had ruled Mahoney was a threat to the community.
