Shooting leads to woman’s arrest
A third person was charged in connection with an early morning shooting Thursday outside a Canton Township bar that injured a Washington father and son.
Rebecca Lynn Kohn, 30, of Joffre, was arrested Saturday by state police on two counts of hindering apprehension and one count of false reports for allegedly assisting Tevin Rahmik Heyman, 20, and his stepbrother, Eric William Johnson Jr., 24, both of Washington, after the shooting outside Cozy Corner Bar, 22 Euclid Ave.
Heyman is accused of shooting Robert Sutton, 56, in both legs and his 33-year-old son, Akili Sutton, in the face. Johnson is accused of assaulting Akili Sutton.
The Suttons were flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of what police described as nonlife-threatening injuries.
Akili Sutton had been in the bar where his father was working at the front door. The younger Sutton went outside and got into an argument with an unidentified man. Heyman and Johnson also were outside the bar. Sutton went back inside the bar and came back out with his father.
Police said the younger Sutton began physically fighting with the unidentified man. Johnson came from behind and hit Akili Sutton in the side of the head, knocking him unconscious. His father then started fighting with Johnson. Heyman reportedly pulled a gun and shot the elder Sutton before shooting the younger Sutton, who was still unconscious.
Both men fled the scene before police arrived. Kohn reportedly was interviewed by Trooper Jay Hundertmark Saturday afternoon. She is accused of lying to police on multiple occasions during previous interviews about her assistance to the two suspects.
Johnson turned himself in at the state police barracks on Murtland Avenue Friday night. He was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. Heyman, who faces charges including attempted homicide and aggravated assault, remains at large.
Kohn was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis and released on her own recognizance. A preliminary hearing for her and Johnson is tentatively set for June 17 before District Judge David Mark.
Anyone with information on Heyman’s whereabouts is asked to call state police at 724-223-5200.
