PITTSBURGH (AP) — A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has charged a man with collecting more than $304,000 worth of Social Security benefits meant for his mother — who died in 1973.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for 65-year-old Chauncey Clinton, of Pittsburgh, and he doesn’t have a phone listed in his name.
According to the indictment, Clinton continued to collect his mother’s old age survivor’s disability benefits from June 1973 until April of last year. The woman died on May 7, 1973.
Federal prosecutors say Clinton face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Authorities didn’t immediately explain why it took so long to discover the alleged scam.
