Thunderstorm brings flooding to some areas

Minor flooding was reported in portions of Washington County Tuesday as a storm moved through around 4 p.m., dumping as much as 1.2 inches of rain in some areas.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh received reports of flooding in Avella and downed trees in South Strabane Township.
Washington Fire Department was called to Burton Avenue, where Chief Linn Brookman said several feet of water had to be pumped out of the basement of a house. Water also had to be pumped out of a garage and two backyards.
Firefighters also received a report of an electrical pole on Highland Avenue that had been struck by lightning. Brookman said several alarms also were set off by the thunderstorm.
A transformer was reported on fire on Linnwood Road in North Strabane Township and there were numerous reports of trees across roads.
West Penn Power Co. reported minor power outages in Green Hills and Wolfdale.
