A New Eagle woman was arrested Thursday by Monongahela police in connection with a crash earlier this month in which police say she almost struck a pedestrian before hitting a utility pole and a hillside and rolling her vehicle over.
Lesley Mycyk, 35, of 141 First Ave., was charged by police with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and traffic violations.
Police were called just before 9 p.m. June 4 for a report of a rollover crash near Chess and Sycamore streets in New Eagle.
Mycyk told police she had just left Dollar General and turned onto Chess. She said she looked down for a second and the next thing she knew, her pickup truck had rolled over.
Police said they noticed her speech was slurred and asked if she had been on any prescription medication. She told police she was taking Soma, a muscle relaxer. Police said Mycyk denied taking too many.
As Mycyk was treated, Jeffrey Boyer told police he had been walking on Chess. Boyer said he was near the utility pole when he saw a pickup truck coming at him. Boyer told police he hid behind the pole as the driver, identified as Mycyk, hit it.
While Mycyk was in the ambulance, an officer asked her again what she had taken, but this time she denied taking any medication, police said. After being questioned a third time, she reportedly said she had taken Klonopin.
When police were checking her purses with her permission, they said they discovered items from Dollar General but no bag or receipts, in addition to three blue pills. Police said Mycyk admitted to stealing the items because she was “just trying to help her family,” and they charged her with a summary count of retail theft.
She was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson and placed in the Washington County jail on $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Thursday.
