PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Pittsburgh man must stand trial on attempted homicide and other charges for a shootout that left him and a city police officer wounded.

Nineteen-year-old Dante Bonner was ordered to trial after a preliminary hearing Thursday in the March 17 shootout with Officer Christopher Kertis.

Bonner was critically wounded after he allegedly shot Kertis in the leg during a foot chase about 3:30 a.m. that day.

Police say Kertis gave chase when Bonner ran away after police stopped a vehicle at the Port Authority East Busway Parking Lot. Police say Kertis tripped over a parking barrier, breaking both his wrists, before he was shot twice in the leg while prone.

Kertis and another officer returned fire, hitting Bonner in the torso several times.

Kertis returned to duty from his injuries last week.
