The 148th annual Jacktown Fair will kick off this year with the Jacktown Fair Parade at 6:30 p.m. July 16 in Wind Ridge.
The fair, which will run July 16 through July 20, is sponsored by Richhill Agricultural Society, which was organized July 6, 1866.
The parade will feature Mandi Burns, 18-year-old daughter of Ray and Lisa Burns of Wind Ridge, the reigning 2012-13 Jacktown Fair queen, and contestants who will be vying for this year’s fair queen title.
The winning queen will go on to compete in the state contest in January. In addition, state and local dignitaries have been invited to participate in this year’s parade.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Harvest Your Dreams.” Prizes of $100, $75, $50 and $25 will be awarded to winning entries that use this theme.
Floats will be judged on their attractiveness, design, workmanship, use of the theme, originality and other elements. Anyone wanting to enter a float or entry corresponding to this year’s theme is encouraged to do so.
The fair board invites all interested churches, groups, organizations and individuals to participate in the parade. Those who have an interesting, entertaining, showy or unusual item also will be welcomed.
The board also is interested in having antique and classic cars, clowns, fire equipment, horses, regional queens and princesses participate in the parade.
Anyone who would like to enter the fair parade or compete for the theme prize is asked to call Marcia Sonneborn, parade chairman, at 724-428-4344 or by email at marciasonne@windstream.net
It is imperative those wishing to enter the parade contact Sonneborn as soon possible so the parade line can be constructed. The date of entry will be taken into consideration when forming the parade line.
