Property owners in Peters Township will see their school taxes increase by 1.7 mills after the school board upped the tax rate by the highest percentage allowed without requesting permission from the state to raise it further.
The board voted 6-3 to raise the millage during a meeting Monday. Voting for the $52,262,952 budget were board members Thomas McMurray, William Merrell, Sandra Gregg, Ron Gregg, Sue Smith and Cindy Golembiewski. Voting against the budget and increase were David Hvizdos, Lori Cuervo and Lynn Erenberg, who voted by Skype.
Taxpayers who currently pay about $4,000 annually in school taxes will see an increase of about $120.
