A Florida man is in custody after a chase last night that began in Washington County and ended in West Virginia after reaching speeds of 135 mph.
State police say the incident began about 7:30 p.m. when a trooper pulled over 27-year-old Theotis Kindell of Orlando on Interstate 70 in Buffalo Township. As the trooper approached Kindell’s 2007 BMW, he allegedly sped off. Multiple state police units joined the chase, during which Kindell reportedly was hitting 120 mph as he recklessly wove in and out of traffic, passing vehicles on the right and left berms.
The chase continued onto Interstate 79 south, with Kindell reaching speeds of 135 mph. He eluded spike strips put down by police in Greene County and continued into West Virginia, where he was finally stopped in Monongalia County after allegedly trying to ram police cars. Police say Kindell resisted arrest but was subdued and handcuffed. He was taken into custody by West Virginia state police. State police in Pennsylvania are preparing a warrant for his arrest.
