Local author to speak at Flenniken Public Library
“A love that will never let go,” that is the theme of Carmichaels’ newest published author, Billie Allen, in her romance novel, “Superstar.”
“It is a very unusual love story,” said Allen. “I have never read a plot line like it in my past.”
Superstar is a story about Mark O’Hara who has made it big in the music industry as a singer. Mark’s life is turned upside down when he meets a mysterious woman at a beach who he soon realizes is his mother who had passed on. She is an angel, and she is now on a mission to help her son find his true happiness, so she herself will be able to find her own true love.
“Love does not die with death,” said Allen about her book.
The book is written in dedication to Allen’s late husband who passed away of cancer. After his death, Allen found a new drive to finish the book.
“After he died I started seeing evidence of angels everywhere,” said Allen. With this new realization, Allen finished her book a year after her husband died.
“The book sort of wrote itself,” said Allen. “These characters are very real to me. Any writer will tell you that their characters live inside their heads and you have to follow what they would like when writing.”
The most emotional section of the book for Allen to write was the section where Mark meets his mother on a beach. At first he does not realize the woman is his mother. He remembers his mother as sick and feeble, not the beautiful woman standing before him; but after she speaks to him in Spanish, Mark realizes the figure is his mother. Both get to share a moment of closure as his mother asks Mark to sing for her, something she never got to hear while living.
To learn more about the book and its author, Flenniken Public Library will be hosting Billie Allen Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at a meet, greet and sign event for her book “Superstar.” She will have books for sale and would be happy to talk about her latest venture.
