A Westmoreland County man is in the Washington County jail after being arrested Thursday night for assaulting two Donora police officers who responded to a call about a disturbance, then refusing to give them his name or any personal information.

Maurice Ross, 55, of Pricedale, initially was charged as a “John Doe” after a fracas at McCrea and Allen avenues.

Charles Ross called police after a man, later identified as Maurice Ross, allegedly directed profanity at his daughter, then swore at Charles Ross. When Charles Ross told the other man he was calling police, Maurice Ross reportedly ran into a home at 502/504 McCrea.

Officers Michael Parry and Robert Dorcon went to the residence to talk with him and said they found Maurice Ross to be intoxicated. When they asked his name, Ross reportedly responded, “I don’t have to tell you.”

When given the option of providing his name or going to the station, police said Ross opted to go to the station but struggled with officers as they tried to take him into custody. Police said they had to use a Taser to subdue him, and that he kicked the officers as they placed him in the cruiser. He also allegedly threatened to kill them and harm their families.

Police later determined Ross’ identity and learned that he also was wanted on a warrant on charges of simple assault and harassment filed last October by Donora police.

Ross was arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of law and terroristic threats. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. He will be arraigned on the October charges Monday before District Judge Mark Wilson.

A preliminary hearing on the latest charges is set for July 11 before Wilson.
