Redevelopment Authority of Washington County has approved the first two loans from its new revolving loan program.

On Wednesday, the authority approved funding to Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living for its future facility in Washington, and to North Star Properties for a property in Hanover Township.

In each instance, the vote was 5-0 for a loan not to exceed $80,000 and to be used for remediation.

A $1 million federal grant from the Environmental Protection Agency capitalized the revolving loan program about a year ago.

The funding for TRIPIL will go toward asbestos removal at its future home, the former YWCA building on West Maiden Street. TRIPIL’s current facility is on Beau Street.

Land remediation will be done on 3.5 acres at the Hanover site, on old Route 22 near the West Virginia line. Petroleum products are buried there.

Also at its monthly meeting Wednesday, the authority approved the filing of a single application with the state Department of Community and Economic Development for the 38 projects the county commissioners approved for Local Share Account funding from slots proceeds from The Meadows Racetrack & Casino. That vote likewise was 5-0.
