America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame in Canonsburg will announce its first inductees on March 15 with ’60s pop icon Johnny Tillotson revealing those 14 performers.
“It’s been a long road, but we’re finally there,” said Terry Hazlett, borough manager and Hall of Fame selection committee member.
He added, “We’re very honored to have Tillotson as our presenter.”
Tillotson will make the announcement at the Canonsburg McDonald’s – home to a collection of Bobby Vinton and Perry Como memorabilia – at 5 p.m.
Tillotson, a country-pop crossover artist who is performing in Wheeling, W.Va., March 16, is best known for his hits, “Poetry in Motion,” “It Keeps Right on A-Hurtin,'” “Talk Back Trembling Lips,” “Without You” and “Send Me the Pillow that You Dream On.”
Inductees were selected by an international online vote that began in September. Among the 40 nominees were Como, Vinton, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and the Beatles. Nominees had to have a hit prior to 1970 to be considered and were selected based on the breadth, depth and influence of their recordings.
A formal induction banquet will be July 3 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe.
America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame is expected to open this fall at its temporary location on Pike Street in Canonsburg.
