Pittsburgh announces bicycle-sharing program
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced a new program that will let people share 500 bicycles for point-to-point trips between any of 50 bicycle stations in the city starting next spring or summer.
Pittsburgh Bike Share will cost $75 for an annual membership, though people may also pay $25 for a month, $15 for three days or $7 for a 24-hour pass.
Annual members will get a special key enabling them to unlock a bicycle from any station at any time. Less frequent users will be given an access code to unlock a bike.
A smartphone app called Spotcycle will let members know whether any bikes or empty docks are available at any of the solar-powered bicycle stations in the city.
