CARMICHAELS – The body of a Cumberland Township woman who had been reported missing Monday evening was discovered Tuesday afternoon near the Rices Landing Boat Club in Crucible.

Cheryl M. Tallent, 54, of 937 Crucible Road, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:29 p.m. by Greene County Deputy Coroner William Lewis.

The death is being investigated by Cumberland Township police. Police Chief Craig Miller declined to comment on the cause of death, saying only that his department is awaiting results of an autopsy that is to be conducted today in Pittsburgh.

Tallent was reported missing Monday evening by her roommate, Jeanna Cooper. Cooper told police she last saw Tallent about 3 p.m. Monday.

Miller said police, following up on the missing person report, conducted a search of the Crucible and Rices Landing area Tuesday afternoon. Volunteers from the Carmichaels-Cumberland, Crucible and Rices Landing fire companies participated in the search, which began shortly after 1 p.m.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death is scheduled for 9 a.m. today with forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht, according to Lewis.
