East Franklin Grange No. 1709 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the grange hall. Final plans for the soup and bake sale will be announced. All grangers are urged to attend. For information, call Martha at 724-627-3498.
Community Sewing Circle of Time will meet Friday for an all day meeting in the social room of Union United Methodist Church. Edie Crouse will be hostess and program leader. The word for roll call is “alive.”
Greene County Department of Recreation’s annual Easter skating event will be held Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Monview Roller Rink with a visit by the Easter bunny. The cost of admission is $7. The event will begin with an Easter basket decorating contest at 1 p.m. Baskets should be decorated ahead of time and ready to be judged. At 1:30 p.m. a magician will perform and the Easter basket judging and Easter egg hunt will begin. The Thomas Hughes Reading Center in Jefferson will hold a “Magic Shamrock Search” for all of its patrons in an early celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, at the center.
Paper shamrocks will be scattered throughout the reading center and patrons will have one minute to turn over shamrocks and find one marked as a prize. There will be one grand prize and three smaller prizes. Anyone with a valid library card at the Hughes House is eligible to participate. “We wanted to do something nice for the patrons to show our appreciation for their support over the years. We have made many good friends, and we will miss them when we close, ” said system administrator Therese Barry. The center is slated to close permanently March 28.
Greene County Veterans Affairs will hold a veterans’ outreach at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, in the West Greene Senior Center. Veterans can make an appointment or stop by to learn about services, including pension, compensation, disability, health care, life insurance, funeral and burial claims and retroactive benefits, said Dalene Watson, office director.
