County approves airport proposal

WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved a proposal Thursday with Pennoni Associates, of Philadelphia, for engineering services that will put in place phase one of a plan to develop a six-acre piece of land at the Greene County Airport. The services would relate to existing airport permits, the new hangar site project and the airport entrance highway occupancy permit project.

The commissioners also approved a contract with Lone Pine Construction for the rehabilitation of the Lippencott Covered Bridge and a proposal for design, bidding and construction phase, architectural and engineering services for a food preparation facility to be built at the Greene County jail.

The board accepted the resignation of Toni Ferencak from the Humane Society Board of Directors and appointed Brad Hartman to the position. During its salary board meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Jan Caldwell, food service supervisor for the Greene County jail; Scott Clutter, part-time corrections officer position; Daryl Throckmorton, environmental program specialist; Tara Smith, department clerk II; Becky Cain, family court coordinator; and Dolores Blosnich, Children and Youth Services Administrator. The commissioners approved a temporary salary increase for Karen Bennett, who will assume the responsibilities of Blosnich’s former position until the county hires someone. Bennett’s salary is currently $74,891.70 and will be increased to $85,590.44, effective March 16. The position of Children and Youth Services Administrator can be applied for at the Greene County website, www.co.greene.pa.us. In another personnel move, the salary board hired Angela Romankis as a regular full-time corrections officer at a rate of $15.02 per hour.

In other matters, the board of commissioners issued a proclamation to World War II veteran Paul Crayne who celebrated his 100th birthday this week, and one designating March as Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

Commissioners also accepted bids for four properties that went unsold after upset and judicial sales were held. The offer for the first property, located in Wayne Township, in tax claim since 2007 was $150. The offer for the second property, located in Jefferson Township, in tax claim since 1993 was $50. The offer for the third property, located in Springhill Township, in tax claim since 1989 was $50. And, the offer for the fourth property, located in Cumberland Township, in tax claim since 1978 was also $50.

Seven department of recreation mini-grants were approved, at $3,000 each, including playground equipment for CBM Ministries in Jefferson Township; sound proofing for an indoor shooting range at the Waynesburg Sportsman Association in Franklin Township, due to proximity to schools; restroom and tennis court repairs at WanaB Park in Cumberland Township; replacement of a ball field storage area and recreation room in Greene Township; fencing, concession and improvements for the King Coal Softball Association in Cumberland Township; dirt, lawn mower services and equipment for the Jefferson Girls Softball field, located in Burson; and fish stocking by the Isaac Walton League of America.
