• Action: The board unanimously hired Shannon Balch as principal at First Street Elementary School at a salary of $75,480, effective when she is released from her current school.

The board approved a one-year food service agreement renewal with Nutrition Inc. for the 2013-14 school year. Joni Mansmann, director of business and finance, said revenues are down and the district is anticipating another loss this year. There will be no price increase for meals, including a la carte.

The board approved the 2013-14 budget for Western Area Career and Technology Center, showing a decrease in Canon-McMillan’s cost of $34,335. The total cost to the district is $451,759.

The board approved the revised Intermediate Unit general operating budget for 2013-14 in the amount of $2,024,659. Canon-McMillan’s estimated contribution is $74,030, an increase of $4,930 over last year.

The board approved changes to the high school courses for the 2013-14 school year.

Board members adopted June 10 as the ending date for students for the 2013-14 school year. The starting date of Aug. 26 had previously been approved.
