Live demonstrations are returning to “Washington County Ag Days at the Mall.”

“We haven’t had them since we left (Washington) mall,” said Sheila Hackinson, executive assistant of the 4-H program at the Penn State Cooperative Extension.

But, demonstrations are again being offered during the 25th annual Washington County Ag Days today and Saturday at Washington Crown Center in North Franklin Township, where the event has been held for several years.

According to Hackinson, demonstrations will be held at 4:30 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday. The demonstrations, offered by seven 4-H members and four adults, will feature such topics as steers, rabbits, modeling, dairy products, bee keeping and sewing on a button.

This year’s Ag Days will also feature square dancing by Chuck Monticello, a performance by Pioneer Cloggers, a pedal pull and a magic show by Bill Horner.

The annual fashion show presented by Washington County 4-H will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday and a performance by Avery Molek, a 6-year-old drumming prodigy, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Of course, the Washington County Cattleman’s Association will again be judging apple pies, which will then be auctioned off Saturday night as a fundraising event for its education support grant. Area bakers can enter their pies by bringing them to the association booth from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

And, what would apple pie be without ice cream? From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today, the 4-H and Washington Dairy Club will be making about 250 sundaes to give out free to event visitors for free.

Other features include a barnyard petting zoo, kid’s play area and results of the annual coloring contest and Washington County Farm Bureau photo Ccntest.

“It’s always a very exciting event,” Hackinson said.
