WAYNESBURG – The Performing Arts Series at Waynesburg University will host Christian songwriter and musical artist Fernando Ortega at 7:30 p.m. April 9 in Roberts Chapel.

Admission is $5 and the public is invited. Waynesburg University students may attend for free.

Throughout his 20-year recording career, Ortega has been celebrated for his work arranging traditional Christian hymns and setting them against a background of organic, acoustic instrumentation.

Beginning his piano career at age 8, Ortega went on to receive many accolades for his long career in music including the 1998, 2000 and 2002 Dove Awards. Christianity Today writes that Ortega is “a master at creating contemplative acoustic folk songs that can just as easily double as inspirational worship music.”

Tom Ribar, Waynesburg University chaplain, said, “Ortega has been writing original music and producing fresh arrangements of traditional hymns for several decades,” Ribar said. “He is a world-class pianist, on top his skills as a lyricist. Ortega will pack something for all ages into his 90-minute concert.”

Space is limited for this performance.

Advanced reservation of tickets is suggested for the general public as well as the Waynesburg University community.

Tickets are now available and can be reserved by contacting Pat Bristor at 724-852-3315 or purchased online at http://waynesburg.ticketleap.com/fernando-ortega/.
