A driver at The Meadows Racetrack was injured Friday morning in a collision with a loose horse in the paddock area.

Art Richardson, chief of safety and security at the North Strabane Township racetrack, said driver Rodney Bolon was jogging his horse around 9:30 a.m. when he was struck by a loose horse that had come from one of the nearby barns.

Richardson said Bolon was knocked off of his jogging cart and suffered a head injury and was briefly unconscious.

He was treated by a North Strabane Township ambulance crew and was transferred by medical helicopter at 10:11 a.m. to a Pittsburgh trauma center.

Richard said The Meadows security department was continuing its investigation into the incident.
