The second annual Miracle Bunny Trail 5K run and walk will be held today at the Penn State Fayette campus. The first run and walk raised $7,000 to support the Miracle League of Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands. This league provides an opportunity for youths with special needs from age 3 to 21 in Greene, Fayette, Somerset, Westmoreland counties and a portion of Washington County to play baseball. Money raised will eventually be used to resurface the league’s field with a latex-free rubberized surface that will be safe for all of its players.

The league currently plays on a handicap accessible field in Uniontown’s Bailey Park.

Over 200 runners/walkers pre-registered for the 5k and over 50 children for the kids’ hop that will be held before the main race. Although pre-registration is closed, walk-ups are welcome for the event today.

The 5K run/walk kids’ hop will begin at 9:15 a.m., the run will begin at 10 a.m. and the walk at 10:01 a.m. Registration opens at 7 a.m. in the campus dining hall.

There are 14 age categories to enter, with prizes for the top three male and female runners/walkers in each category. Prizes also will be awarded to the top overall male and female runners/walkers.

There will be an activity center available for all children that participate in the race and for anyone that is in need of child care during the adult race. Activities for children will include an Easter Egg Hunt with a visit from the Easter Bunny, crafts and games.

Donations for the league’s “Field of Dreams” project can be made at www.miracle5k.org.
