JOHNSTOWN – Union employees say they have been told that a Western Pennsylvania plant will be closing by the end of summer, leading to a loss of about 100 jobs.
The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat says workers at Johnstown Specialty Castings in Moxham were told that the decision was made due to loss of orders, inadequate capacity and foreign exports.
The plant supplies cast rolls and sleeves, slag pots and custom castings for a variety of heavy industrial applications.
Charles Novelli, president and CEO of plant owner WHEMCO, said the company has met with the United Steelworkers Local 2632, Unit 16, to discuss consolidation of its facilities, but declined further comment.
WHEMCO is a worldwide supplier of heavy industrial components for the metals, power generation and shipbuilding industries.
