A 13-year-old boy on his way to his bus stop Monday morning told Chartiers Township police he was approached by a man who asked him if he wanted a ride.
“Hopefully, it is just a neighbor trying to help, but we want to make sure,” said township police Chief James Horvath.
The boy, who is a student at Chartiers-Houston Junior-Senior High School, was walking to the bus stop about 9 a.m. along Walnut Street on his way to the stop on McGovern Road at Linda Lane when the driver of an older-model gray car asked if he needed a ride. The district was operating under a two-hour delay because of the snow.
The driver was described as a white man in his mid to late 50s, wearing a black hat with a brim.
“He said the man was very polite,” Horvath said. “But it made the boy nervous.”
When the boy got to school, he told one of his teachers what happened, and police were notified.
Township police checked the area of the bus stop Tuesday morning and will continue to check the area. Horvath said police have received no other reports.
Anyone with information on the incident or the driver is asked to call police Sgt. Steven Horvath at 724-745-8030, ext. 215.
