WAYNESBURG – On Tuesday, the Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce warned its members to be aware of a company looking for advertising support for a “stadium cup” or “megaphone” for Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, specifically the cheerleaders.

On Wednesday, Melody Longstreth, executive director of the chamber, said, “We have spoken to the company involved, and they assured us that the project has been shut down.”

The company was Fanfare Sports, or in some cases Scoreboard Marketing. They are in fact the same company, said Longstreth. Apparently, this company was soliciting advertising dollars to produce a map of Greene County, along with sports-related items for the middle school.

“Again, this is not a locally sponsored program and your advertising dollars will leave the county,” she said. The County of Greene produces full-color county map that shows a street map for all of the towns, boroughs and the university campus, but most importantly, it features a county map that is accurate, she said.

“We had been made aware that in several of the phone calls, the caller indicated she was working with the Chamber of Commerce, which was false,” Longstreth said. “In other instances, she made you feel as if you knew her and that she was local.”
