Six arrested at checkpoint: Six people were arrested for driving while under the influence and 40 traffic citations were issued by state police who conducted a DUI checkpoint on Route 50 over the weekend. In addition, there were two arrests on misdemeanor charges but troopers did not elaborate. The checkpoint was set up near Avella High School. Other, roving patrols, took place throughout the Cross Creek area, police said.

Driver strikes tree: Zachary E. Liddle, 21, of Bridgeport, Ohio, was injured after he fell asleep while driving on East Finley Drive Sunday morning and struck a tree. State police said Liddle’s vehicle then rolled over. He was taken to Wheeling Hospital for treatment.

Driver injured: Margaret Lee Norman, 36, of Bentleyville, was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh Sunday morning after an accident on Route 917. State police said Norman was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and charges will be filed with District Judge Curtis Thompson’s office. Police did not release additional information on the crash.
