Saying that the court has the power to intervene in matters to “remedy malfeasance for the protection of the public and its treasury,” Washington County President Judge Debbie O’Dell Seneca has nullified Trinity Area School Board’s decision to award its bus contract to the Scottish firm known as First Student.
The judge wrote that school directors “Sandra Clutter and Jenene Hupp, who are school bus drivers for an independent contractor, not only have a conflict of interest with regard to transportation matters at Trinity,” they acted “in direct contravention of this court’s order” by casting votes on the transportation contract April 1.
Without their participation, the motion to award the contract to First Student would not have received the required majority of board votes.
The judge’s order means that a local firm, GG&C Bus Company Inc., prevailed in the suit it filed against the school district late last year.
