READING (AP) – A 32-year-old clerk who was set on fire at a sandwich shop in eastern Pennsylvania remains in critical condition at a hospital as police continue searching for a suspect.

Investigators say 32-year-old Joel Fontanez was behind the counter at Citi Sub & Grocery Store on Tuesday evening when a man walked in, threw gasoline on him and set him on fire. Sgt. Matthew Schappell says witnesses haven’t been able to identify the suspect and police are hoping to get a clear image from surveillance video.

He says police don’t know why Fontanez was attacked.

Firefighters responding to the blaze found him in a gutter across the street from the store, with his clothing still smoking.

He was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown, where he remains in critical condition.
