Route 844 in Canton Township opened to traffic after work to replace a small bridge near the Frazier-Simplex gun club finished about a month ahead of schedule.

Crews were originally to then move to Route 50 to replace a bridge near the entrance to Cross Creek County Park, but that work will not begin until June 3, after classes are over in Avella Area School District. School officials had expressed concern that an earlier start would have severely disrupted bus transportation to the schools.

The Route 50 work is expected to take about eight weeks, said a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
