First Baptist hosts spring celebration
WAYNESBURG – The Ten Mile Association for American Baptist Churches conducted its 154th Spring Celebration April 28 at First Baptist Church, Waynesburg.
This was a special event as Pastor Cathie Carpenter of West Waynesburg Jesus Distributer Church (WWJD) in West Waynesburg, was nominated and won the National Evangelism Award for American Baptist Churches USA.
The celebration began with a dinner for 160 people from the community and then a service followed with 200 attending to honor and witness Carpenter receive her national award.
Pastor Cristy Wise, moderator of the Ten Mile Association and pastor of Bates Fork Baptist Church, Sycamore, conducted the gathering with many of Carpenter’s family participating through song.
Testimonies were received by Ruth Hobbs, the Rev. Billy Wayne Arrington, Kingsport, Tenn., the Rev. Dr. Edward Peirce of First Baptist Church, Waynesburg, and the Revs. Richard and Carol Visser.
The message was given by the Rev. Dr. Frank Frischkorn, executive regional minister of American Baptist Churches of Pa. and Del. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Johnson, national director of Evangelism American Baptist Home Mission Societies, presented the award to Carpenter.
