Cecil Township supervisors voted Monday night to schedule a private meeting with Range Resources officials to discuss their relationship.

The supervisors voted 3-2 to plan the meeting with the Marcellus Shale natural gas driller at its Southpointe headquarters, although a date has not been scheduled.

The meeting would be closed to the public and not include lawyers from either side. Township supervisors cited a recent Commonwealth Court decision that a private meeting was permissible under the Sunshine Law for this purpose. That decision was appealed to the state Supreme Court, where it is pending.

Range Resource officials could not immediately be reached for comment on whether the company would be interested in meeting with the supervisors.
