Chamber scholarship to be presented at quarterly luncheon
WAYNESBURG – The Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund Committee has announced that the 23rd annual $1,500 scholarship will be presented to Jessica Black of West Greene High School.
Black, 18, a daughter of William and Melissa Black of Holbrook, plans to attend Waynesburg University to purse a degree in nursing.
The scholarship will be presented at the chamber’s quarterly membership networking luncheon at noon May 22 at the Hampton Inn, Waynesburg, and is open to the first 50 guests to respond.
Reservations are required and may be made by calling the chamber office at 724-627-5926. The cost of the luncheon is $15.
The networking luncheon is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Foundation for Free Enterprise Education, and John J. Trombetta, president and CEO of the organization, will be the main speaker.
Other speakers will include Cindy Cowie, administrator of Southwest Regional Medical Center, who will address the upcoming Health Care Reform Act and how it will affect business.
The subject of Trombetta’s talk will be “The American Free Enterprise System – Do Our Kids ‘Get It’ – Does Anyone?!”
This scholarship, the 23rd for the chamber, is presented each year to a Greene County senior who plans to attend a college, university or trade school.
The scholarship is awarded based on grade-point average and a 500-word essay.
This year, 32 applications for the scholarship were received by the chamber.
The committee had a difficult task of selecting one winner from the qualified field.
