Mt. Pleasant Township police have received reports recently concerning “pushy” salespeople going door to door selling cleaning supplies and sweepers.

The description of the behavior is all similar, with the solicitors not wanting to take no for an answer, according to police Chief Lou McQuillan. When they do leave, there are at least three or four other people in their vehicle.

The solicitors are offering “in-home” demonstrations of the cleaning products and sweepers. The cleaning products are being offered as a “free gift.”

Residents have seen a gray or dark-colored sedan and a dark minivan.

McQuillan said residents should be aware that the township does have a soliciting ordinance and that they can ask to see a copy of it from anyone at their door. There is only one current soliciting permit, and that was issued to the Kirby Co. of Washington. Company representatives will be wearing photo ID badges and will produce a copy of their township permit if asked.
