GREENSBURG (AP) – The first hospital to be built in Western Pennsylvania’s Westmoreland County in more than half a century will be located in Unity Township.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says township supervisors on Thursday gave final approval to a site plan for Post Acute Medical LLC.

The company says its $20 million 40-bed specialty rehabilitation facility will employ 125 people.

The last hospitals built in the county were the former Jeannette District Memorial Hospital constructed in 1959 and the Monsour Medical Center built in Jeannette in 1952.

Monsour closed in 2006 and Jeannette was acquired by Excela Health and was closed several years ago.

At one time, there were seven hospitals in the county.
